our little tent
We had an ikea tent last winter..the kids loved it so much they bent the frame. Bryce has been asking for another one. So following this tutorial I bought the supplies and Wednesday afternoon put the frame together.
This afternoon I sewed the fabric part of the tent. I found an adorable cowgirl/cowboy vintage print fabric I wanted to use. But at $7.99 a yard I decided to use an extra twin flat sheet we had on hand. The fabric was on a grid which helped a lot.

I should put in a little disclaimer if you build this. It is relatively easy to knock over. This tutorial has extra support beams. I'm still considering adding them at the bottom...

I love what you have done. Love your use of tools, etc. Favorite childhood memory of mine: Army Cot draped with dark wool army blanket.
ReplyDeleteI loved the DARK hiding spot. Often used it outside on our soft lawn grass. Can you throw another darker fabric across this? Looks strong
luv your ingenuity. ggma
thanks grandma! i like the idea of a dark tent. i'll give it a try :)
ReplyDeleteWhat makes it so easy to knock over? Might have a few super cheap and easy ideas to help, but not sure where the issue is.
ReplyDeletewell, the instructions said the 3/4" hole would be tight with the dowel. but that wasn't the case with ours. the bump-ons have helped a lot but kinsey just messes with it a bit and it falls. i don't have a very scientific response :)
ReplyDeleteTake a ribbon (maybe 4-5 inches long) and staple one end to each of the poles towards the top so that when it's open it's taught. Then, because it's ribbon, it will still allow it to collapse but will prevent the legs from spreading further apart than you want them to. Does that make sense?
ReplyDeleteThats a great idea, i'll try it! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour kids are so lucky to have you as a mom, Julia! What a fun, creative thing to do for them.
ReplyDeleteaww thanks tammy! its been fun lately with bryce because he's old enough to really help + interact with projects. makes it more fun :)
ReplyDeletethought i'd pop over since you checked out my shop - what a nice clean blog design.. and ADORABLE tent!! making the most of winter, right! Stephanie
